 Vanderbilt University Press Warning

Vanderbilt University Press has allegedly violated the rights of Dr. Umpierre by publishing an article in their 1997 book DANCE BETWEEN TWO CULTURES by Dr. William Luis of Vanderbilt University Department of Spanish and Portuguese which defames her.  Not only did they use Dr. Umpierre's poetry without copyright permission, which is an overt act of theft, but Dr. Luis perpetrated acts of homophobia, anti Puerto Rican sentiment, classism and misogyny with the explicit consent of Vanderbilt University Press.  Dr. Umpierre urges individuals not to buy books from Vanderbilt University Press.  Dr. Luzma Umpierre also wishes to warn other writers that their rights may have been violated by this press and Vanderbilt University.

New York University Press Warning

Dear Colleagues,

Let it be known that New York University Press has used substantial parts of my poetry in their 2007 book The Latino Body: Crisis Identities in American Literary and Cultural Memory by Dr. Lázaro Lima, Associate Professor of Spanish and Latino studies at Bryn Mawr College, without seeking permission from me. This is an assault on the copyrights of all of Latino writers and I am seeking your support in denouncing the use of substantial elements of the works by Latina writers without permission by New York University Press.

Sincerely,

Dr. Luzma Umpierre
